As members of the Westland Robotics Competition Team, students will design, build and program robots to navigate a thematic tabletop obstacle course at the First Lego League (FLL) regional qualifier tournament. Prior experience is preferable but not mandatory. In addition to the after-school club meetings, the team will meet during one STAR period a week to prepare for the required presentation portion of this year’s competition: Into Orbit! Solving a real world problem related to space travel. During the competition, the kids are judged on FLL core values such as sportsmanship and teamwork. Participation on the team requires interest, focus and dedication in this fun, fast-paced and exciting setting. More information about this international competition can be found at: https://firstinmaryland.org. The instructor, John Carbonell, is an electrical and software engineer, who has been leading after-school youth activities for 9 years. He has taught youth robotics classes and camps for various organizations. Westland parent, Cathy Stocker, will assist Mr. Carbonell and lead the STAR sessions.
PLEASE NOTE:  This club meets until 5:00 PM - students must be able to walk home or be picked up - there is no activity bus option for students in this club.  Students will also meet once a week during Westland's STAR period.
